Allah wants to forgive

Know that Allah has encouraged people to repent to him and never feel hopeless or to despair because we can still repent to Allah and become a good person instead of thinking that after committing a sin we can't be forgiven. It is one of the tricks of the Shaytaan (Satan) that after committing a sin that a person feels that are not worthy of Allah's forgiveness or that they want Allah's punishment to compensate for their sins or that they think they won't be forgiven. A person should reject such thoughts and turn to Allah for His forgiveness and to help them.

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Amongst the men of Bani Israel there was a man who had murdered ninety-nine persons. Then he set out asking (whether his repentance could be accepted or not). He came upon a monk and asked him if his repentance could be accepted. The monk replied in the negative and so the man killed him. He kept on asking till a man advised to go to such and such village. (So he left for it) but death overtook him on the way. While dying, he turned his chest towards that village (where he had hoped his repentance would be accepted), and so the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment quarrelled amongst themselves regarding him. Allah ordered the village (towards which he was going) to come closer to him, and ordered the village (whence he had come), to go far away, and then He ordered the angels to measure the distances between his body and the two villages. So he was found to be one span closer to the village (he was going to). So he was forgiven."

(Hadith)

Everybody makes mistakes.  However, Allah has made it such that it is very easy for people to be forgiven and to return to a sinless state once more.  Allah's Apostle (PBUH) said,

"When a slave (of Allah) commits illegal sexual intercourse, he is not a believer at the time of committing it; and if he steals, he is not a believer at the time of stealing; and if he drinks an alcoholic drink, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it; and he is not a believer when he commits a murder." 'Ikrima said: I asked Ibn Abbas, "How is faith taken away from him?" He said, Like this," by clasping his hands and then separating them, and added, "But if he repents, faith returns to him like this," by clasping his hands again.

(Hadith)

There can be no reward greater than gaining Allah's pleasure and so a person  should cast away any doubts in their mind that they are missing out on something by giving up wrongdoing.  The whims and desires of this worldly life and material things are no comparison.

"Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, this person is indeed successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception."

(Qur'an 3:185)

It is a false idea to be scared of missing out on something on account of giving up a sin, when in reality so much is gained. Allah has promised His creation that if they give something up for His sake then He will give them something so much better in return.  Allah has power of all things and if He wills something to happen - it will.

"And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things"

(Qur'an 65:2-3)

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,

"If someone clings to asking for forgiveness, Allah will appoint him a way out of every constriction, and relief from every care and will provide for him from where he does not reckon."

(Hadith)

Remember, Allah wants to forgive mankind for their sins. He wants them to repent. All a person has to do is ...... ask.

"Allah wishes to make clear to you and to show the ways of those before you and accept your repentance and Allah is All-Knower, All Wise."

(Qur'an 4:26)

"Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves."

(Qur'an 2:222)

Abu Hamza Anas ibn Malik al-Ansari, the servant of the Messenger of Allah reported that the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH) said:

"Allah has greater joy at the repentance of one His slaves when he turns towards Him than one of you would have over his mount, which, having escaped from him with his food and drink in the middle of the desert so that he has despaired of finding it and gone to a tree to lie down in its shade, suddenly appears standing by him while he is in that state, so that he takes its reins and then says out of the intensity of his joy, 'O Allah, You are my slave and I am Your Lord!' getting confused because of his intense joy.'"

(Hadith)

Although Allah is very pleased with our repentance the most important point to keep in mind is that Allah does not need people's repentance, people are the ones who need repentance so that they may be forgiven by Allah and be successful.

"O mankind! It is you who stand in need of Allah, but Allah is Rich [Free of all wants and needs], Worthy of all praise."

(Qur'an 35:15)

The Prophet Muhammad conveyed what Allah revealed to him regarding Himself in the following narration:

"O' My servants! All of you are without guidance except those whom I guide. So seek guidance from Me, I shall guide you.
O' My servants! All of you are hungry except those whom I feed. So ask food from Me I shall feed you.
O' My servants! All of you are naked except those whom I clothed. So ask clothes from Me I shall clothe you.
O' My servants! You commit mistakes (sins) by night and day and I forgive all sins. So ask forgiveness from Me I shall forgive you.
O' My servants! You can never reach harming Me so as to harm Me; nor can you ever reach benefiting me so as to benefit Me.
O' My servants! If the first of you and the last of you and the entirety of this human race of yours, and that of the jinns as well, became as pious as the most pious heart amongst you, by nothing would that increase My kingdom.
O' My servants! If the first of you and the last of you and the entirety of this human race of yours, and that of the jinns as well, became as evil as the worst heart amongst you, by nothing would that decrease My Kingdom.

O' My servants! If the first of you and the last of you and the entirety of this human race of yours, and that of the jinns as well, all stood upon one plain to ask Me and I gave every one what he asked, that would not decrease what I have, anything more than what a needle decreases the sea if it is dipped into it.
O' My servants! It is only your deeds which I shall reckon up for you, and then recompense you for. So whoever finds good, should praise Me and whoever finds other than that, blame none but himself."
