Allah forgives a person's sins if they repent
No one should feel that what they have done is so bad that Allah will not forgive them for that, this is one of the tricks of Satan that makes us lose hope.
"No one despairs of Allah's mercy except those who have no faith"
(Qur'an 12:87)
"He said: 'And who despairs of his Lord's mercy except those who go astray?'"
(Qur'an 15:56)
Allah has enough mercy for all of us and has far more than all the mercy of all of His created beings - past, present and future.
"The day when Allah created mercy He made it in one hundred parts. Ninety-nine parts He kept with Himself and one part He sent to all His creatures"
(Hadith)
"Say, 'Oh my servants who have transgressed against their souls! Do not despair of Allah's mercy, for Allah forgives all sins. He is indeed Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.' "
(Qur'an 39:53)

If we repent to Him then surely we will find Him forgiving and merciful. This is a reminder repeated over and over in Qur'an.
"Ask Allah's forgiveness. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
(Qur'an 4:106)
"Then glorify your Lord's praise and ask His forgiveness. He is the Ever-Returning."(Qur'an 110:3)
"Anyone who does evil or wrongs himself and then asks Allah's forgiveness will find Allah Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
(Qur'an 4:110)
The following has also been narrated:
"Anas said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, say, 'Allah Almighty says, "O son of Adam! I will forgive you as long as you call on Me and have hope in Me, no matter what you do. Son of Adam, I do not care if your wrong actions reach to the clouds of heaven and then you ask Me for forgiveness, I will forgive you. Son of Adam, if you were to come with sins equivalent in weight to the whole earth and then meet Me having not associated anything with Me, I would come to you with the same amount of forgiveness.''""
(Hadith)
Note: "Son of Adam" refers to any human being.

Allah even forgives those who have worshiped other gods if they repent, and this is the greatest of sins (more information regarding the major sins is given in the section < target="_blank" href="prohibitions.php">Prohibitions). Allah also forgave Adam and Eve for their disobedience, and their sincere repentance was a lesson for all of mankind to follow as it shows how as people we will all err and yet we can all be forgiven by simply asking for Allah's forgiveness.
Indeed, even the Prophet (PBUH) used to ask Allah for his forgiveness even though he was the Prophet and was already guaranteed to have all his sins forgiven. Despite this he used to repent to Allah more than 70 times a day.
"O people, make taubah (repentance) to Allah. By Allah, I make taubah to Him more than seventy times each day."(Hadith)
Even though the Prophet (PBUH) was never displeasing to Allah he asked Allah for His forgiveness, how much more so should the sinners?

The Prophet (PBUH) encouraged everyone to repent to Allah as a means of purification from their sins. The Prophet (PBUH) used to say every morning he used to ask Allah for forgiveness at least 100 times.
"Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: 'We counted in a single sitting the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, saying one hundred times:
"Rabbi-ghfir-lee wa tub 'alayya innaka anta-t-tawwabu-l-ghafoor."
(My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, verily you are Acceptor of Repentance, Oft-Forgiving.)'"
(Hadith)
