Adam and Eve are forgiven

The sin of Adam and his wife stemmed from desire, not from arrogance, unlike that of Iblees whose act of disobedience was purely because of arrogance and afterwards Iblees showed little remorse. Adam and Eve asked for forgiveness, whilst Iblees asked for respite - both parties got what they asked for.

Thus, whilst Allah promised to punish Iblees for his disobedience, Allah guided Adam to repent and ask for forgiveness, and Allah accepted his repentance:

"Then Adam received from his Lord Words. And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily, He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the Most Merciful"

(Qur'an 2:37)

There are many lessons for us to learn from Adam and Eve's story, some of which are:

Firstly,  Allah gives clear warnings and lays down laws for us for our own benefit, lest we should cause ourselves grief.

"(Thus) does Allah make clear to you (His Law) lest you go astray."

(Qur'an 4:176)

In Adam and Eve's case, Allah warned them that if they were to eat from the tree they would be distressed - which was the case when they suddenly became aware of their nakedness and the sadness and regret they felt for their disobedience.

Secondly, Shaytaan is an enemy to mankind and will stop at nothing to deceive and trick mankind into being denied of Allah's bounties by going against His commandments.  Iblees is quoted as saying in the Qur'an:

" 'Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You).'"

(Qur'an 7:17)

Thirdly, Allah created mankind weak (with desires and lusts) so that we may be tested and so in the certain event that we make mistakes, by turning to Him in sincere repentance Allah promises to forgive us. We should never lose hope that Allah will forgive us, no matter how serious the sin, if we repent with absolute sincerity, as He even forgave Adam and Eve.

"And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do"

(Qur'an 42:25)

We know from what happened to Adam and Eve, that for all their descendents, right until today, forgiveness for their sins is offered if they repent sincerely. Even in Adam and Eve's case, where a terrible sin was committed (openly disobeying Allah after having being told explicitly not to eat from the tree and giving into the whispers of Iblees despite having been warned about him), Allah is the Most Forgiving and Most Merciful. It is narrated from the Prophet Muhammad's sayings that Adam said, 'O Lord! What if I repented and sought forgiveness?' and Allah said, 'Then, I will admit you into Paradise.'
